Affiliate: site owner who markets products for a merchant, thereby earning a commission for the effort
Affiliate Agreement (AA): agreement between an affiliate and a merchant which dictates the relationship. Also referred to as Terms and Conditions (T&C) or Terms of Service (TOS)
Affiliate network: acts as an intermediary between publishers (affiliates) and merchant affiliate programs. An Affiliate Network allows website publishers to quickly and easily find and participate in affiliate programs which are suitable for their website (and thus generate income from those programs), and allows websites offering affiliate programs (typically online merchants) to reach a larger audience by promoting their affiliate programs to all of the publishers participating in the affiliate network
Affiliate Manager (AM): merchant representative who assists the affiliates
Affiliate Program: shared revenue partnership between affiliate and merchant wherein affiliate markets for the merchant for a previously agreed upon sum.

Cascading Style Sheets (CSS): used to set standard styles on a web site
Charge Back: incomplete sales transaction which results in the loss of commission
Click Through: when an individual clicks on a link
Click Through Rate (CTR): equal to impressions per click, or how often a visitor clicks on an ad after it's been displayed
Cookie: Small text files that allow a Web server to store information about visitors and recognize them when they return.
Conversion Rate (CR): equal to orders per click, or how often a visitor makes and order after clicking all the way through on a web site
Cost Per Action (CPA): amount the merchant pays the affiliate per visitor-initiated action, such as making an order
Cost Per Click (CPC): amount merchant pays the affiliate for each visitor click on the merchant's ad
Cost Per Impression (CPM): cost per every 1000 impressions
Earnings Per Click (EPC): the average pay-out per 100 clicks
Impression: when the ad is displayed to a viewer
Merchant: online vendor of products or services who offers an affiliate program
Paid Inclusion (PI): guaranteed listing in a search engine based on a fee
Parasite: technology that interrupts the normal of click tracking and compromises affiliate business
Pay For Performance (PFP): merchant pays affiliate based on predetermined action
Pay Per Click(PPC): bidding system where an advertiser pays a search engine per click for ranking
Pay Per Click Search Engine (PPC SE): paid search services such as Google Adwords or Yahoo's sponsored search
Payment Threshold: minimum amount of commission earned before a payment is made
Return Days: number of days after a click through that an affiliate can still earn a commission
Return On Ad Spend (ROAS): equal to return per ad spend, or the percentage of income vs. expense generated by advertising
Return On Investment (ROI): equal to return per investment, or the percentage of income earned vs. total investment
Search Engine Marketing (SEM): term that encompasses both Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Pay Per Click (PPC) marketing methods
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): optimizing your web site in order that search engines can index it to improve search ranking
Search Engine Results Page (SERP): the list a search engine returns in response to a query
